A police captain was killed in broad daylight: the attacker is being sought

In Sloviansk 19 March 2026, during the performance of official duties a police officer was killed. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at about 11:30, when officers were checking the documents of a suspicious man. At that moment he opened fire on the police patrol.

From the gunshot wounds sustained, Captain of Police Oleg Zakharenko, a senior district police officer of Police Department No. 4 of the Kramatorsk District Police Directorate, died at the scene. The attacker fled after the shooting, and measures are currently underway to detain him. All relevant services are working at the scene.

As of now, law enforcement has not released additional details about the shooter’s identity or possible motives. It is only known that the search continues and the circumstances of the attack are being established.
