President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a visit to the United Kingdom, said he has a “bad feeling” about peace negotiations with Russia, explaining that because U.S. attention has shifted to events in the Middle East, meetings within the diplomatic process are being postponed.
The circumstances of the statement and Kyiv’s position on further steps in the negotiations are reported by BBC.
According to the head of state, the conflict in the region complicates the coordination of schedules and the calendar of further contacts between the parties.
«The focus of America’s attention is greater on the Middle East than on Ukraine. So our meetings are constantly being postponed. There is one reason – the war in Iran»,
Separately, Zelensky said that the United States offered to hold talks on Ukraine on its territory; Kyiv is ready for such a model, but Moscow refuses the format of meetings in the United States.
“Ukraine will support any date and place, but definitely not in Russia”,
Despite the difficult conditions, the president emphasized the constant exchange of messages and the daily work of the negotiating groups: the Ukrainian team is in contact with the American side, and the United States keep in touch with Russia.
Responding to a question about the actions of U.S. President Donald Trump, Zelensky refrained from personal judgments but stressed the threats to collective security in the event of tensions among allies.
«Any split in NATO will weaken both sides»
