Since the beginning of 2026, damages totaling more than 328 thousand hryvnias have been caused
In Mykolaiv Oblast, the number of attacks on transport infrastructure facilities has increased since the beginning of 2026. Among the targets of the Russian strikes were facilities of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”.
The State Ecological Inspectorate of the South-Western District reported on March 17, 2026 about the environmental consequences and the recorded damages.
According to the inspectorate, between January and mid‑March eight attacks on railway infrastructure were recorded in the Mykolaiv region, which caused fires in various locations. As a result of the attacks, passenger cars, diesel locomotives, depot buildings, storage facilities, substations and auxiliary equipment were damaged. In addition, the fire spread to open areas along the railway tracks. The total area of the fires amounted to about 200 m².
Separately, ecologists recorded the ignition of 25 tonnes of fuel and lubricants, which significantly increased the negative impact on the environment. According to calculations, the total amount of damage from these fires has already exceeded 328 thousand hryvnias. At the same time, emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere amounted to more than 101 tonnes, of which 100.8 tonnes were carbon dioxide.
The agency noted that work to document the consequences is ongoing. Inspectors continue to record the effects of the shelling, collect the necessary materials and carry out further calculations of the damage caused.
