Ukraine is moving the war into a new format: the Defense Ministry launches an AI center for the front line
The center will be responsible for implementing artificial intelligence in defense processes
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine announced the launch of Defense AI Center “A1” – the first competence center that will focus on implementing artificial intelligence into defense processes and developing technological solutions for modern warfare. The new center will become part of a system of technological competence centers being created at the Ministry of Defence across key areas of modern warfare. This includes, in particular, drones, Middle Strike, Deep Strike, artillery and other domains where the speed of innovation implementation directly affects the outcome on the battlefield.
The creation of this system was announced by the Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov, explaining that Ukraine must outpace the enemy not only with weapons, but also with the pace of technological solutions:
“To be faster than the enemy on the battlefield, we are creating a system of military technology competence centers under the Ministry of Defence. In the near future, a separate center will appear for each key direction of modern warfare: drones, Middle Strike, Deep Strike, artillery and others”.
The Ministry of Defence notes that the task of such centers is to continuously analyze the battlefield, new technologies and determine the next steps to develop Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The ministry emphasizes: in modern technological warfare, advantage goes to those who move faster through the innovation cycle – from idea to its application at the front.
The first in this system will be the Defense AI Center “A1”. It is being launched with the support of the government of the United Kingdom. Among the main areas of the center’s work are analysis of combat data, forecasting enemy actions, development of autonomous systems, and the creation of new command and control tools.
The center is expected to help more quickly turn combat experience and data from the front into concrete technological solutions, as well as accelerate the implementation of innovations within the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
Separately, Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that AI-based solutions must become part of all domains of modern warfare – from intelligence to command:
“AI solutions will become part of every domain of modern warfare – from intelligence to command. Our task is to create the most effective defense system in Europe. This is an AI-driven next-generation army based on the speed of innovation, autonomous systems and network superiority”.
The Ministry of Defence also invited specialists to join the new center. Resumes can be sent to the email address people@mod.gov.ua, and proposals and ideas for the development of defense AI solutions to ai@mod.gov.ua.
