An Odesa judge was sentenced to six years in prison for a $4,000 bribe

The panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court 6 March 2026 announced the verdict: a judge of one of the district courts of Odesa was found guilty of receiving an improper benefit and sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment.

According to journalist Oleh Novikov, it concerns Lyudmyla Saltan, who held a position at the Kyiv District Court of Odesa. The verdict was rendered by the HACC based on materials from an anti-corruption proceeding.

According to the investigation, on 29 March 2023 NABU detectives together with the SBU, under the procedural supervision of prosecutors from the SAP, exposed the judge immediately after receiving the funds. According to the prosecution, she received 4 thousand dollars for issuing a decision in favor of a citizen in a civil case.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court applied additional sanctions: a ban on holding positions in state authorities for 3 years and partial confiscation of property — in particular an Audi Q8 vehicle and a residential house belonging to the convicted person.

The decision will take legal effect in 30 days after its announcement unless it is appealed.

In September 2024 the judge was mobilized, receiving the rank of seaman in the reserve of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade; she was later transferred to another military unit. The command reported that she did not participate in combat operations, and at the end of November she appeared for duty while intoxicated, after which an administrative protocol was drawn up.

This is not the first scandal related to Lyudmyla Saltan: in declarations for 2017, 2018 and 2019 she did not report funds totaling 2.1 million UAH, which were used to purchase the Audi Q8.
