During a briefing at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he is surprised that in Ukraine, where a war is ongoing, people continue to live, and admitted that he is not sure whether he himself could remain there under similar conditions.
The politician emphasized that, despite the fighting, a significant portion of Ukrainians are not leaving the country and continue to live at home.
He separately noted that he finds such resilience unexpected, stressing that he personally is not sure of his choice under such circumstances.
Explaining his position, the American president added verbatim:
“People live in Ukraine. You would think they shouldn’t be living there, but they live in Ukraine. I don’t know if I would do the same. But they live in Ukraine”
