Fatal traffic accident in Mykolaiv on the avenue; the case has been sent to court, and the driver faces up to 8 years
The case concerning a person's death in an accident on a city avenue has been referred to the court for consideration
The case of a fatal traffic accident in Mykolaiv has been referred to court: on the evening of January 8, at the intersection of Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue and Sahaidachnoho Street, a 23-year-old driver of a Daewoo Lanos at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing struck a 62-year-old woman, who died.
The regional police stated that the victim died at the scene from her injuries.
Officers of the Department for the Investigation of Transport-Related Crimes detained the driver and notified him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — “Violation of road traffic safety rules or vehicle operation that caused the victim’s death”.
The pre-trial investigation has been completed, the criminal proceeding was referred to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, after which prosecutors forwarded the indictment to the court for consideration on the merits.
Under the charged article, the defendant faces up to 8 years of imprisonment with a possible additional disqualification from driving for up to 3 years.
