From Cadet to a Unit Legend: The Story of the Fighter "Tsunami"
Citizens of Ukraine appealed to the President of the country with a request to confer the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) on police captain Sydorov Maksym Ihorovych (call sign “Hivr”), a fighter of the assault regiment “Tsunami” of the United Assault Brigade of the National Police “Lyut”.
Maksym Sydorov was born on 10 December 2000 in the village of Halytsynove, Mykolaiv Oblast. He studied at the Odesa City Lyceum with enhanced military-physical training and at the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, after which he began service in the police of the Kherson region.
During the full-scale war he voluntarily joined the assault regiment “Tsunami”. He carried out combat missions in Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, took part in defensive and reconnaissance operations, destroyed enemy FPV drones, eliminated occupiers, helped hold positions and rescued wounded comrades.
Maksym Sydorov’s last battle took place on 31 May 2025 near the settlement of Yablunivka, Kramatorsk District, Donetsk Oblast. After an enemy FPV drone struck the armored vehicle “ROSHEL SENATOR”, he rushed to help wounded comrades and tried to pull them out of the burning vehicle. At that moment the enemy struck again, as a result of which Maksym was killed.
For bravery Sydorov Maksym Ihorovych was awarded the President of Ukraine’s distinction “For the Defense of Ukraine”, the badge “Silver Cross”, the departmental distinction “For Courage in Service”, the Combatant’s Cross (posthumously) and the order “For Courage” III class (posthumously).
The authors of the petition emphasize that Maksym is worthy of the highest state award for his feat and self-sacrifice.
