In broad daylight: in Mykolaiv, a man took a bicycle from an 11-year-old child

Within a few hours, police from the Mykolaiv District Police Department located a man suspected of stealing a child’s bicycle. The Mykolaiv Oblast Police reported this on March 14, 2026.

A report about the incident was received on the emergency line 102 on March 13 from a resident of the regional center. The woman said that on a children’s playground in the Lisky neighborhood an unknown man took her son’s bicycle.

At the scene, officers of the investigative-operational team of the Mykolaiv District Police Department established that an 11-year-old boy, together with friends, was playing on the playground on Kurortna Street. At about 16:45 an unknown man approached the children who, ignoring remarks, sat on the child’s bicycle and rode away from the scene. Within a few hours, operatives determined the whereabouts of the suspect. He turned out to be a 28-year-old local resident. As the police established, he rode the stolen bicycle to Soborna Street, where officers found him. Investigators seized the child’s bicycle from the suspect and, under the procedural guidance of the District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Mykolaiv, informed him of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Robbery committed under martial law”.

For the offense, the man faces up to 10 years in prison. A court will soon decide on a preventive measure for the suspect. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
