Wanted to help a woman with children — was killed: tragedy in an apartment building
In Kremenchuk, law enforcement is investigating the circumstances of a man’s death after his body, showing signs of a violent death, was found in an apartment of a multi-story building on Senior Lieutenant Kahal Street.
According to the police, on March 12, 2026 at around 04:00, a report was received at Police Station No. 1 of the Kremenchuk District Police Department from a local resident who was in the building and asked for help. Patrol teams, an investigative-operational group and an emergency medical team immediately went to the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that the complainant, born in 1993, together with two minor children, entered the apartment of a man born in 1960 with his consent. According to law enforcement, the woman may have needed medical assistance due to a mental health disorder. When police arrived at the call, they found the dead owner of the dwelling with obvious signs of a violent death. A forensic medical examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the man’s death.
Investigators have entered information about this incident into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional homicide.
According to the local outlet “Kremenchuk Gazette”, during the night the woman was running around the building entrance with the children and begging for help. An elderly man who lived in the building opened the door for her and let her into his apartment, after which the woman called the police, claiming that someone wanted to kill her.
When law enforcement first arrived, the apartment owner was still alive, and the woman was already dressed in his clothes. Police assumed she might need medical assistance and called an ambulance. However, when the medics arrived, the woman did not let them into the apartment and closed the door.
After some time she began to shout for help from a window, after which law enforcement and medics returned to the scene. When the door was opened, the apartment already contained the body of the man with multiple stab wounds. According to local media, the woman was detained, and the children were handed over to a specialized center. The investigation is currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
